Cutaneous infections are skin diseases that are caused by the attack of different types of germs, which provoke a local reaction in which different cells and microorganisms present in the skin are destroyed. Initially, the affected area becomes inflamed and presents a reddish, stinging and burning sensation, which usually ends up causing an abscess and an ulcer on the skin, or a fistula. The most frequent infections can be classified according to their origin: bacterial, like staphylococcus or impetigo; viral, such as warts, molluscum contagiosum or herpes simplex; those caused by fungi, such as candida infections; or those caused by skin parasites such as scabies or lice. The treatment of cutaneous infections depends on the causes, although in most cases it will be necessary to clean the lesion with hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, and apply creams that contain antibiotics or take the antibiotics orally, as determined by the specialist.
