Endoscopy is a test used to diagnose or treat (therapeutic endoscopy) possible pathologies of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum, the upper part of the digestive tract. The endoscope is inserted through the mouth and advanced to see the tract. As the test causes discomfort, it is common practice to slightly sedate the patient. The test lasts 15-30 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.
