What is platelet-rich plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma is a blood derivative that stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and epidermal tissue. It is used to achieve firmer, brighter and better-quality skin.

Why is the treatment performed?

Platelet-rich plasma is a cosmetic treatment aimed at rejuvenating the skin of the face, particularly the area between the eyebrows, the crow’s feet and between the nose and lips.

Platelet biostimulation is also used for other treatments such as improving stretch marks, joint degeneration, burns, skin loss after surgery and wounds caused by ulcers. Since the patient’s own plasma is used, there is no risk of the substance being rejected, encouraging a better result.

What does it involve?

This treatment consists of taking a small amount of blood from the patient, extracting the plasma from it and then injecting it into the desired area to stimulate cell regeneration in the tissues and to combat the signs of ageing.

Treatment with platelet-rich plasma helps the skin to recover its firmness and smoothness, whilst also reducing the expression lines of the face.

The main advantages of this technique are safety and effectiveness.

How to prepare for platelet-rich plasma treatment

Bioestimulation with platelet-rich plasma is performed at the surgery. After cleaning and preparing the area for treatment, an anaesthetic cream is applied and blood is taken from the patient. Once the plasma has been extracted, it is then applied to the patient via multiple injections in the form of mesotherapy, using a very fine needle.

Post-treatment care

Following PRP treatment, the patient should apply arnica cream to prevent small papules appearing in the areas injected on the neck and neckline area, and to lightly massage with the fingertips the areas where the skin is more delicate.

On the day of treatment, it is advised not to sunbathe or to apply creams to the skin. It is also not advisable to go to a sauna or gym directly after treatment.
