Neurohypophysis is the posterior lobe of the pituitary. This part of the pituitary gland is for storing various hormones secreted by the hypothalamus, including the antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or vasopressin (AVP), which is responsible for enhancing water reabsorption in the kidneys and regulate the concentration of various substances in the blood. When a patient suffers the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of ADH, the kidneys do not recover enough water; there is no elimination of glucose in the urine and causes what is known as diabetes insipidus. This condition has nothing to do with diabetes caused by the lack of insulin but is called diabetes because it shares certain symptoms, such as diuresis and increased thirst, causing the need for drinking water constantly.
